Introducing Steve
Steve is our head of security at blue self storage, he joined our security team following 30 years as a police officer, completing various roles including the Dog and Mounted Section in South Wales Police.
He leads our in house security team which consists of 18 guards and 6 dogs. On a day to day basis, the team deals with the security of all sites, including patrols and CCTV monitoring. Our customers’ possessions are in safe hands with Steve and his team.
Security Dogs
Our security team works alongside our very own highly trained General Purpose Security Dogs, certified to NASDU standards, providing an extra layer of protection across our site/s.
These dogs have been trained to detect, deter, and respond to any potential threats, making them a crucial part of our security operations. With their keen senses and rapid response capabilities, they work tirelessly alongside our professional security personnel to ensure your goods remain safe and secure 24/7, 365 days a year.

How is access to the storage facility controlled?
Access can be gained 24/7 by reporting at the security lodge situated front of site. Here you will be welcomed by a courteous and professional officer who is more than happy to help you. Be prepared he will require you to produce your blue self storage ID Card and your registration number.
Are there any additional security features for individual storage units?
There is state-of-the-art 24/7 CCTV in operation. This is fully supported by mobile rapid response officers and their 4-legged friends who are at hand to respond immediately. We carry out random tests to ensure all sites remain secure.
What contents cover options are available for stored items?
Contents cover is mandatory across all SSA sites in the UK. The cost will depend on the value of your goods.
What fire prevention measures are in place?
Before you start storing, we ask our customers to specify the items stored inside the container – any flammable or combustible goods won’t be allowed, such as:
- Liquids
- Aerosols
- Combustible or flammable materials i.e. alcohol, paint, solvents, liquid chemicals, cleaning products, gas, oil, diesel
Fire procedures and extinguishers are on site. Security has a database of all customers on site and are qualified in relation to fire procedures.
What is the protocol in case of a security breach or emergency?
In case of a security breach, we have standard operating procedures. We test breaches on occasions and note the response. A recent test resulted in the police arriving at scene in 12 minutes – a very red-faced manager had to do a lot of explaining! We have a wealth of experience built up over 36 years and our motto is ‘prevention is better than detection’.
