We pledge commitment to our community by giving back in whatever way we can.

Our team has always been deeply committed to assisting local charities and beyond. We have all seen friends, family, and other loved ones struggle with various issues; this is the driving force behind our commitment to helping our community in any way possible.

From giving away food and essential items to families who may be struggling, to raising money and making large donations for causes dear to our hearts; or even working with nearby schools to develop enjoyable opportunities and supporting grassroots sports clubs.

We also aim to motivate, involve, and encourage others to participate in charitable activities by sharing our own work and efforts with the community.

Community cleanups and networking

In an effort to bring businesses based in and around Wentloog Corporate Park together, we created Pick n’ Mix – an event combining litter picking and networking.

Volunteers help us clean the environment around us in conjunction with Keep Wales Tidy.

Following the cleanup, refreshments and food are provided by blue self storage whilst everyone gets to know each other and their businesses.

After a successful run of this event in 2023, Pick n’ Mix is now a regular get-together!

Annual Easter donations to families in need

Charity’s not just for Christmas…

In 2021 our customers helped us to collect over 200 Easter eggs which were donated to Cardiff Foodbank.

One year later in 2022, we collected and donated Easter eggs not for one, but for two charities – Cardiff Foodbank and Llanrumney Hall Community Trust. Our incredible team and customers managed to surpass the Easter egg collection from 2021 with over 300 eggs!

Annual Christmas donations for local families in need

In 2021, we decided to scrap the office Secret Santa and opt for something a bit more charitable and meaningful.

With the help of our staff, customers, clients and friends we were able to donate 470kg of food and essential items for families in need, to Llanrumney Hall Community Trust and Cardiff Foodbank, respectively.

A year later, in 2022, we were keen to repeat our success – and happily collected another 445kg of donations for both charities.

Thanks to everyone’s hard work and efforts, no one is left behind at Christmas!

Supporting the Sir Gareth Edwards Cancer Charity throughout 2023

We’ve joined forces with Space2B at The Maltings and Techsol to support the Sir Gareth Edwards Cancer Charity. This amazing organisation is dedicated to helping young people aged 15 – 35 in Wales who are going through treatment for cancer.

Each business has committed to a minimum monthly donation of £250 per month, but we’re not stopping there. We’re aiming to smash this figure by working tirelessly throughout the year through a variety of fundraising events such as quizzes, coffee mornings, raffles, donation boxes on our receptions, Q&A events with Sir Gareth, and many more.

Donating £5,000 to Marie Curie, a charity near to our hearts

As part of the Resource group of partner companies, we were able to join forces with The Maltings Document Storage Solutions to submit a joint donation of £5,000.

Marie Curie, a UK-wide nonprofit organisation, provides assistance and support to people with terminal illnesses and their families. They run 10 hospices in the UK, including the Cardiff and Vale Hospice in Penarth. In Wales, they also have 150 Marie Curie nurses who care for over 2,400 people with terminal illnesses each year.

#6

Supporting local grassroots sports clubs

We’re passionate about supporting and developing community sports, which is why we work with local schools and clubs to ensure they have great kit to wear and excellent storage to use.

Just some of the clubs we support include:

  • Llanishen RFC Under 9s rugby club
  • Cardiff Crusaders Under 8s girls football
  • Rhoose Under 8s football team
  • Old Illtydians RFC

#7

Emergency fundraising for disaster relief

When global crises unfold, we strongly believe it’s everyone’s responsibility to act and help, however possible. When the Ukraine war broke out, watching the horrific events occur was (and is) incredibly difficult. The citizens have and continue to show immense bravery and courage in the face of needless violence.

To show our support and solidarity when the initial calls were made for resources, our staff raised over £150 and purchased many essential items which were sent to Ukrainian refugees.

And in 2023, when the earthquake hit the Turkey-Syria border, we made a monetary donation via the Red Cross to provide aid relief and further resources where needed.

We may be a ‘small’ company, but we feel every act of help and kindness is critical.

#8

Providing free storage to Cerebral Palsy Cymru

We partnered with Cerebral Palsy Cymru (formally known as Bobath), a charity with strong community roots. They are dedicated to helping children with cerebral palsy and similar neurological conditions.

Everyone here at blue self storage loves what the charity stands for, which is why we provided free storage so they could keep excess donations safe and secure during the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.

#9

Collecting donated clothing for Salvation Army

As part of our efforts to encourage environmentally-conscious thinking, we’ve placed a clothing bank at our Wentloog site in partnership with Salvation Army. Customers with any unwanted or old clothes they wish to get rid of can place them in the clothing bank. This creates space, gets rid of clutter and helps out families in need – it’s a win win!

#10

Providing free storage to Hope Rescue

We partnered with Hope Rescue in response to an incredible outpouring of support from our online community, who nominated deserving recipients for a free-of-charge storage for a year at our new Bridgend facility.

Hope Rescue is on a mission to provide a lifeline for dogs in need, their dedication and work is truly inspiring.

#11

Supporting schools through group activities and sponsorships

We’re passionate about helping local schools in any way we can, either through organising fun group activities or contributing towards necessary school materials.

In 2023 we partnered with Coychurch Primary School and delivered a fun pumpkin carving competition for students and teachers where each winner was awarded a prize. We also contributed £50 towards the school for books.

#12

Raising £20,000 for prostate cancer awareness

We’re proud to announce that in early 2024, blue self storage hit a target of raising £20,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.

Prostate cancer is a huge health concern affecting many men locally and nationally, and our fundraising efforts aim to address this gap and make a meaningful impact in the fight against prostate cancer. Every pound raised brings us one step closer to better outcomes for those affected by this disease.
