We’re thrilled to share the news that Marie Curie, a charity close to our hearts, has accepted our joint £5,000 donation.
Marie Curie is a UK-wide charity that provides care and support for those living with terminal illnesses, and their families. They have 10 hospices in the UK; Penarth is the location for their Cardiff and the Vale hospice, but their work in Wales also extends to the 150 Marie Curie nurses working across the country to care for over 2,400 people terminally ill people each year,
To officially donate the sum, Dean Daly, Operations Manager, and Chris James, Commercial Manager at The Maltings Document Storage Solutions recently visited the Penarth hospice and spoke with Marie Curie nurses Charli, Beth and Rhea.
Speaking on why we chose Marie Curie, Dean said: “It’s a charity close to quite a few of us at work; I think everyone can relate to someone with cancer, as it’s such a non discriminatory disease. Everyone I know has lost at least someone to this cruel disease.
“The stats nowadays are quite frightening, and it’s something that affects us all.
“We take our corporate responsibility very seriously,” Dean added. “A lot of charities have been hit hard by Covid-19 with disruptions to their income sources, so if we can help a charity out, of course we’re going to do that.”
Asked what Marie Curie plans to spend the donation on, Charli explained: “The money will go towards the running costs of our Cardiff and the Vale hospice, providing care and support to patients who come in for therapies or those who stay in the hospice and receive 24 hour care from our wonderful nurses.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the donation and it will be put to great use.”
Why we’re focused on charity & community
Our commitment to helping local charities is led by the people in our team. All of us will and have been affected by various issues at times, and all of us know what it’s like to see friends, family and loved ones struggle with different matters.
Whether it’s losing a friend to cancer, watching a parent struggle with an illness, or feeling inspired by a friend battling a mental health issue, the endless reasons to support hard-working charities are all around us.
