  1. Customer spotlight: A 5-star removals company reinventing house surveys

Comments Off on Customer spotlight: A 5-star removals company reinventing house surveys

As we near the festive season, it’s a time for sharing the love and lifting each other up – so in our latest blog series, we’re shining a spotlight on companies doing fantastic work who deserve to be recognised for it.

For this interview, we speak to Alex Ghimpu, Operations Manager & Adrian Stan, Director, of Red Lion Removals – a blue self storage customer since early 2020.

They’re a family-owned business, founded from a desire to create a moving company that keeps its word and delivers an amazing customer experience.

Hi guys. What does Red Lion Removals do?

As the name suggests, we provide removal services all around Europe – but we also provide packing, dismantling and assembling services; making it easier for our customers to get from A to B!

We’re relatively new, having formed in March 2020, and although we’re based in Cardiff, we serve customers all across the UK and EU.

We’re very proud to have fantastic reviews from our customers so far, and we’re always trying to beat our own standards of service!

It’s been a tough time for businesses – how has yours adapted during lockdown?

During lockdown we followed all the guidelines that the government put in place for us, including face masks, social distancing, sanitising and more.

We also implemented our new ‘video survey’ service, where a customer can walk through the property and show us around via video chat – whether on a tablet, phone or laptop – before we estimate a price.

It means we completely reduce unnecessary contact and our customers can stay 100% safe – very handy as we’ve had lots of people moving house during lockdown!

Why do you use blue self storage?

We love the flexibility, location and customer service provided by blue self storage for removal companies – having originally used the Wentloog storage site, we moved to the Llanishen facility once it had opened as it’s so convenient for where a lot of our customers are.

But also a huge factor is definitely the security. When storing customers’ treasured items, top-level security is an absolute must, and we feel super safe with you guys.

In general, how does self storage help your business?

Using self storage is helpful for our customers who have delays between moving out and moving in, for sure, but it also means we can be flexible and offer different options.

So, what projects are Red Lion Removals working on at the moment?

We’re always busy with our general removals but our hard-working team is also looking at having a new office in the near future!

Plus, we’re hoping to open a new branch in a different location, which is exciting. We already serve a wide geographical area with both the UK and EU, so a new base would be ideal.

COVID-19 has led to a lot of local community help & support – what’s been your favourite ‘community kindness’ story you’ve seen?

Our favourite stories are definitely of neighbours and people looking after each other, like this sweet friendship between 77-year-old Andy and 31-year-old volunteer Alex in Glasgow.

Closer to home, lots of Cardiff companies offered help, support and free food to organisations like the NHS, which was incredible to see.

    Introducing our ‘customer spotlight’ series

It’s been a hard year for businesses in South Wales and across the UK, dealing with projects on hold, staff at home and other pandemic-related difficulties. But through good times or bad, these companies are the backbone of our national economy.

So that’s why we’re launching our brand new ‘customer spotlight’ series, celebrating our business & commercial storage customers who use us to save space & stay focused in challenging times.

We’d like to say a huge thanks to Adrian, Alex & Red Lion Removals for the interview – good luck with your next batch of removals!

Comments Off on We’re supporting Cerebral Palsy Cymru with an entire year of free storage

We’re thrilled to announce that we’re supporting local children’s charity Cerebral Palsy Cymru with an entire year of free storage to hold all their donations!

In June 2020, our brand new storage facility in Llanishen’s Cardiff Business Park officially opened – and we’re delighted to announce that we are offering Cerebral Palsy Cymru a whole FREE year of storage.

Donations are vital to the charity’s four recently re-opened charity shops in raising funds to make a difference to children in Wales living with cerebral palsy. Their shops are based in Llanishen, Cathays, Talbot Green and Barry. With the need now greater than ever, it’s vital that they can accept as many donations as possible, with no stress over where to store them.

    About Cerebral Palsy Cymru

Cerebral Palsy Cymru is Wales’ leading charity for children and families living with cerebral palsy in Wales. The charity was founded by a group of families in 1992.

Their specialist team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists work together combining their skills, with the aim of helping each child to reach their potential.

Their family support service offers a listening ear, advice and support to families often trying to cope with an uncertain future ahead.

Why we’re partnering with this fantastic charity

With their mission to improve the quality of life of all children in Wales living with cerebral palsy, we love what Cerebral Palsy Cymru brings to local Cardiff families and those throughout Wales.

We may be a storage company, but we are not just any storage company; we know the value of taking care of the things and people that are important to us!

We are pleased to announce that we have been granted planning permission for a new self storage site in Llanishen.

We’ve had to wait for what seems like forever to give you more information on our plans but the cat is finally out of the bag.

When and where is blue self storage going in Llanishen?

Why is blue self storage heading to Llanishen?

Chris Bryan, our Commercial Manager: “We are really excited to have secured planning permission for what is hopefully the first of many additional sites.

Cardiff Business Park is a perfect location for us to begin our expansion; the demographic mix of business and domestic customers within the area will ensure that we can continue to offer our excellent customer service and affordable commercial storage and self storage to both new and existing customers.”

Are there any more blue self storage sites planned?

Plenty! We are currently working hard behind the scenes to secure two further sites. Our aim is to have 4 operational sites by the end of March 2020. We can’t tell you any more yet but will announce further details as soon as we can!

    Any questions?

  5. Meet Dean Daly – our new Operations Manager

Comments Off on Meet Dean Daly – our new Operations Manager

We’re delighted to announce that Dean Daly has joined blue self storage as our new Operations Manager.

Yet before we learn more about Dean, here’s Chris Bryan, our Commercial Manager:

“I’m delighted that someone of Dean’s calibre has joined the team at blue self storage. Dean brings a wealth of experience from the housing and construction sectors, along with extensive landlord/tenant relationship and customer service experience.

“Dean’s focus will be to assist with growth plans whilst ensuring our existing customers continue to get a great service.

“I am confident that this appointment will be great for both our business and our customers. With aggressive growth plans, we need somebody with Dean’s experience to ensure that the planned new sites are delivered to the standard that our customers have come to expect. It is an exciting time for blue self storage and we wish Dean all the best in his new role.”

    Meet Dean Daly, Operations Manager

We caught a quick five minutes with Dean to find out more about him and his plans for blue self storage

What’s your name and where do you come from?

My name is Dean Daly and I currently live in the Rumney area of Cardiff

How long have you been with blue self storage?

This is my second week in post; I am in the absorbing stage but already exploring areas where we can develop the business and improve the service.

What first attracted you to the role?

Having been working in London for the past year, I wanted to return to Cardiff to be closer to my family but I wanted a role that would excite and challenge me. blue self storage provided this and within seconds of my first interview I was onboard! The company ambitions matched my own but the big selling point was the company culture, everyone seemed so happy and friendly.

What does the role of Operations Manager entail? What’s a typical day?

I am extremely lucky in that I have inherited an exceptional team. Typically, operations managers are responsible for managing activities that result in the delivery of a service, my role is diverse and will grow and change alongside the business.

I see the role as developing the business, promoting the brand, overseeing growth, motivating and developing staff, ensuring we provide a professional service by continuous improvement.

These are exciting times for blue self storage, where do you see it growing in the next few years?

I am confident within a few years blue self storage will become a nationally recognised self storage brand. We have the experience and skills to be one of the market leaders.

Self storage as a whole feels like it’s booming at the moment – where do you see the market going next?

The self storage industry is booming, although we fall far behind the USA in terms of sqft per population. The UK currently offers 0.67sqft whilst the USA can offer 7.06sqft per head of population, so we are playing catch up.

What’s the most challenging part of working in this industry?

Public awareness. The vast majority of the general public have limited self storage awareness. As an industry, we must raise our profile.

A couple of fun questions to end on – what’s your favourite shade of blue?

The blue self storage blue, of course!

Correct answer… Finally, what music do you like?

My music taste is horrendous, it can be very cheesy. My playlists are as secret as the Coca-Cola recipe.

…but blue self storage’s aren’t! Dean may keep his playlists under wraps, but ours are very much available – check them out on Spotify.

So, whether you use blue self storage at Wentloog or are planning to use our new Llanishen site when it opens in autumn 2019, you’re sure to bump into Dean.

Do you have any questions for Dean and the team?

We’d love to hear them, so please don’t hesitate to let us know.
