Moving house during lockdown in Wales? Our ultimate ‘how to’ guide

People in Wales can begin ‘moving house’ again – but what do you need to do first?

From Monday 22nd June 2020, Mark Drakeford has stated that ‘House viewings in vacant properties and home moves will be allowed, restarting the housing market’ in the latest Coronavirus announcement from BBC Wales.

This is fantastic news for those who found themselves ‘in limbo’ during the lockdown, unable to sell, buy or move properties – the housing market in Wales is now partially reopened, with a full reopening to follow at a later date.

If you’re ready to restart your move at last, here’s how you can handle your self storage needs and stay safe while you move home during the current lockdown restrictions.

Safety rules for moving house during lockdown in Wales

Firstly, be aware of the rules

While some restrictions have been lifted, there are still rules to follow to ensure you and all parties stay safe and protected during house sales, viewings and moving home.

  • Home moves can only go ahead providing the residential property has been vacant for at least 72 hours – so residents living in the home they’re selling will need to safely find somewhere else to stay
  • In situations where a sale has been agreed but not yet completed, people are allowed to move
  • The marketing and viewing of unoccupied residential properties can once again take place
  • Property valuations and inspections are allowed provided they are done in line with social distancing measures

Choose your closest Cardiff storage facility within 5 miles

Wherever you live in Cardiff, you’ll be able to select between our two storage facilities, in either Wentloog or Llanishen.

For as long as the current 5-mile travel guidance remains in place, you can choose the site that best suits your safety and security needs.

Wentloog     Llanishen

How to enter our Llanishen storage facility, contact-free

Use contact-free storage sites to stay safe when you visit

Our team has worked hard to adapt our services to go ‘contact-free’ and digital, from signing up through to actually visiting our sites.

Our Llanishen site uses automated barriers and QR codes on your phone to enter and exit, so you don’t need to touch any surfaces when you visit.

Our Wentloog site has secure manned entry-points as you drive in, and our security staff are always safely 2 metres away from customers.

Due to the set-up and size of both our Cardiff storage facilities, we guarantee that customers can maintain a safe, 2 metre distance at all times.

Customers can now enquire, pay, sign contracts and receive their keys through an online / over-the-phone sign-up process, reducing the need for human contact.

Email or call us to secure your storage unit in just a few minutes.

That said, we understand not everyone has the access or ability to use the internet – so our staff are still on site, should you need to sign up in person, with rigorous hygiene and disinfecting measures in place.
