Celebrating our second successful fundraising event for the Sir Gareth Edwards Cancer Charity

On the 22nd of June, we hosted another fabulous fundraising event for the Sir Gareth Edwards Cancer Charity along with our sister companies: Space2B at The Maltings and Techsol.

A successful fundraising event for the Sir Gareth Edwards Cancer Charity

This wonderful charity is our adopted charity for 2023 and anyone who has listened to Eirlys Edwards talk about why the charity was established will know how powerful and moving the story is. Sadly, this charity is much needed to assist young people in Wales due to the lack of provision and financial assistance available. The charity provides financial support to people aged between 15-35 who are receiving treatment for Cancer.

The event was held at the charming Grade 2 listed building, Maltings Space2B on East Tyndall Street, a beautifully characterful venue. If anyone is looking to host a bespoke event then this venue should be on your shortlist!

The event was hosted by the lovely Jason Harrold, a familiar voice amongst radio listeners.

After a tasty three-course dinner provided by the resident coffee shop & caterers KIN+ILK, the Q&A session got started with Sir Gareth Edwards, arguably one of the greatest ever rugby players to grace the game answering question from guests – no topic was off the cards. Listening first-hand to Sir Gareth regale stories from the past including ‘that try’ many would argue to be one of the greatest tries ever scored v Barbarians in 1973 in front of a packed Cardiff Arms Park was spine-tingling.

The Q&A session had everyone glued to their chairs, and this was followed by a raffle and the auction of a signed Sir Gareth Edwards rugby ball and various other prizes. The event was a tremendous success with around £2,000 collected and a huge amount of awareness raised for this charity.

The very next day, the charity sent two payments to two young people in the Gwent area who are receiving chemotherapy treatment. This a very sobering fact and evidence we need to work harder to help this charity, as the money is given directly to young people to help with travel costs, paying their mobile bills, putting petrol in their vehicles; all essential when having to travel and attend various medical appointments.

So far this year, with the help of our sister companies, we have raised around £10,000 for this amazing charity. However, we’ve not stopped there as we continue to plan and arrange more fundraising events.
