Kids have a sixth sense at Christmas.
You could hide a gift in a locked safe, buried under six blankets, inside a box labelled exciting tax documents, and they’d still sniff it out.
So if you’re tired of playing festive hide-and-seek with tiny detectives, here are some tried-and-tested hiding spots… and a few genius ones you probably haven’t tried yet.
1. The wardrobe top shelf (classic, but effective)
Stick presents right at the top, behind a pile of blankets or your least-worn winter jumper (you know, the bobbly one).
Kids rarely look up. They’re too busy rummaging at eye level.
Bonus points if you put things in plain brown boxes so they look boring.
2. In old suitcases
The perfect disguise.
Suitcases scream week in the sun, not Santa’s stash.
Stuff a few blankets on top for extra camouflage, and you’re golden.

3. In the airing cupboard
Kids avoid this place like the plague because it’s warm, boring, and full of towels.
Perfect.
Just make sure nobody accidentally uses your gift pile as a towel restock.
4. Under your bed. Only if you do it right!
Loose under-bed hiding is rookie behaviour.
Instead, pop presents into a storage box or old shoebox, slide it under the bed, and label it something like Receipts or Misc. Wires.
Your organised child might even tidy around it without touching it.

5. Inside the Christmas decorations box
MI5 level hiding. Kids never suspect the decorations box once the tree is already up.
Just remember to remove them before January or someone’s getting a very late surprise.
6. In the boot of your car
Ideal for older kids who snoop indoors but don’t dare open the car without permission.
If your boot is full of random life clutter, even better… it’s instant camouflage.

7. The ‘no-go’ cleaning cupboard
Children will happily investigate anything except cleaning supplies.
Pop presents behind the mop bucket and enjoy your temporary hiding haven.
8. Inside other boxes (the decoy method)
Hide gifts in boxes that already live in the house. Think board games, old shoe boxes and that ‘mystery cable’ box every home has.
Just remember which one you used…
9. And the ultimate hiding place… your storage unit
If you want zero risk, zero snooping, and total peace of mind, this is your winner.
Think of it as your own Santa’s workshop, minus the elves, plus some excellent security.
A storage unit is perfect for:
- Big gifts you can’t hide at home
- Bikes, gaming chairs, trampolines or giant teddy bears
- Surprise presents for partners
- Wrapping gifts in secret (bring snacks, we won’t judge)
Plus, the kids will never find out. Unless they can somehow pick locks, memorise maps, and bypass CCTV… I think those presents are safe.

However sneaky your little elves are, a good hiding spot (or a cheeky storage unit) will keep the magic alive.
And if you need space for those bigger surprises, you know where we are. Friendly faces, plenty of room, and absolutely no judgement of your wrapping skills.
