Because flowers are nice, but memories are better…
Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to step away from the sofa and actually do something cute together. Whether you’re planning a full on romantic date, a fun day out, or something a bit more chilled, both Cardiff and Bristol have loads of great places to make your Valentine’s plans feel special.
Here are some of the best spots to visit for a lovely Valentine’s Day in each city.
💗Valentine’s Day in Cardiff
Cardiff is packed with cosy corners, great food, and places that feel like you’ve travelled somewhere much fancier without leaving South Wales.
1. Explore Cardiff Castle Together
Nothing says romance like old stone walls and dramatic history, right?
Cardiff Castle is a brilliant date idea if you want something different. You can explore the grounds, take photos, and it feels like a proper little adventure. Bonus points if you both do your best “royal wave” at the top of the keep.

2. Take a Romantic Walk Through Bute Park
If you want something simple but sweet, Bute Park is a winner. Even in February it’s gorgeous, especially if you wrap up warm with a coffee and do a slow wander along the river.
Top tip: bring a flask of hot chocolate and pretend you’re in a movie.
3. Book a Cosy Dinner Date in the City
Cardiff has some gorgeous restaurants that are perfect for Valentine’s.
A few styles to look out for:
- intimate candlelit spots in the city centre
- small plates restaurants for sharing food
- proper fancy dining if you’re going all out
We love Maison De Boeuf, Gin and Juice and Elgano.

4. Visit the Cardiff Bay Waterfront
If you want calm, pretty and scenic, Cardiff Bay is perfect. Walk along the water, grab dessert somewhere nearby, and enjoy the city lights reflecting on the bay.
It’s romantic without being too cringe!
5. Activities Galore!
There’s activities around every corner in Cardiff and there’s some really good ones for a date.
If you fancy a Valentine’s date that’s a bit more fun, try Chance & Counters for board games and drinks, Peggy’s Pots for a cute creative activity, or Boom Battle Bar for axe throwing and competitive chaos.

💘 Valentine’s Day in Bristol
If you want a Valentine’s Day that feels more creative and unique, Bristol is perfect. It’s romantic but with a bit more personality.
1. Watch the Sunset at Clifton Suspension Bridge
If you want a classic romantic moment, this is the spot.
The Clifton Suspension Bridge is stunning, and the views are unreal. Go around sunset time, take a few photos, then wander into Clifton for food or drinks after.

2. Go on a Museum or Gallery Date
For a slightly more chilled but fun Valentine’s plan, Bristol has some brilliant museums and galleries.
Try the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery or some smaller independent galleries if you want to discover something cool!
It’s a great option if you want to spend time together without spending a fortune.
3. Have a Cute Date in Bristol Harbourside
The Harbourside is one of the best places to hang out in Bristol because it feels lively but relaxed.
Perfect for:
- a slow walk with coffee
- sharing street food
- spotting boats and pretending you own one
Even if it’s cold, it’s still such a nice vibe.

4. Do a Proper Foodie Date
Bristol’s food scene is incredible, and Valentine’s is a great excuse to try somewhere new.
Ideas depending on your vibe:
- pizza and cocktails
- tapas style sharing
- a fancy tasting menu
- dessert first, obviously
And yes, sharing dessert is romantic. If they refuse, red flag. (Kidding. Kind of.)
5. Have a go!
Not every Valentine’s date needs to be serious and romantic. A fun date where you can laugh together is sometimes the best kind.
From climbing and archery at Bristol Activity Centre, to retro arcade games at NQ64, and a totally unique experience at Wake The Tiger, Bristol’s got a little bit of everything!
It’s cute, fun, and you don’t have to stare deeply into each other’s eyes across a candle.

Bonus: Valentine’s Day Doesn’t Have to Be Expensive
The best dates are usually the simplest ones. Here’s a few low cost Valentine’s ideas:
- make a picnic at home with your favourite snacks
- walk somewhere scenic and grab hot drinks after
- cook dinner together and rate each other’s effort
- do a “first date” recreation and see who remembers what happened
Whether you’re in Cardiff or Bristol, there are loads of ways to make Valentine’s Day special, fancy, casual or totally random, as long as it feels like you.
And if not, takeaway, blankets and a comfort film still counts as romance.
Happy Valentine’s Day 💘
