Their mission is simple yet powerful: to ensure everyone has access to basic hygiene products, because feeling clean should never be a luxury.
What The Hygiene Bank Cardiff Does
Hygiene poverty is a hidden crisis, affecting countless people in our local community who cannot afford essential toiletries and cleaning products.
The Hygiene Bank collects unused hygiene products and distributes them through community partners like schools, baby banks, and homeless support services.
This vital work ensures those in need are supported with the dignity they deserve.
How the Pandemic Changed Everything
The past three years have brought significant challenges. The pandemic, combined with rising energy costs and inflation, has left more families struggling as their income fails to meet the growing cost of living.
Anna shares:
“Demand for our support has surged and is consistently much higher than before. Unfortunately, this has been coupled with a significant decrease in public donations, so we now rely more heavily on grant funding and support from businesses to maintain our projects.”
How blue self storage helps the Hygiene Bank Cardiff
Charities like The Hygiene Bank Cardiff often face practical challenges, such as finding space to store donations. That’s where blue self storage comes in.
“Having a storage unit at blue self storage enables us to take advantage of the occasional, very welcome offers from brands of pallets of toiletries and cleaning products. Without this space, we would have to turn these donations down.” says Anna.
The 24/7 access is another game-changer, allowing volunteers to work flexibly around their day jobs, even during evenings, weekends, or bank holidays.
Ongoing Projects and Future Goals
The Hygiene Bank Cardiff is committed to ensuring no one in Cardiff is excluded from fully participating in society due to hygiene poverty. Their current focus is raising awareness both locally and nationally about this hidden issue.
Looking ahead, Anna explains:
“We’re working hard to secure funding through grants and local businesses to sustain our operations. If you’d like to support us, you can donate products via our online wish list or contribute cash through our Just Giving page.”
