We recently had the pleasure of spending the day with Phoebe, granddaughter
of our late great chairman Nick Williams, the founder of blue self storage.
When we received the initial phone call from Phoebe’s mum asking if we could
help by giving Phoebe some work experience focusing on sales and marketing
we jumped at the chance.
For such a young lady, Phoebe is mature beyond her years and has the most
wonderful affectionate smile and demeanour.
Welcoming Phoebe to the team
The day started with introductions and a relatively shy Phoebe, within a few
minutes Phoebe felt comfortable under the watchful eye of Rhi our experienced
team leader.
With a blue self storage notepad and personalised water bottle as an icebreaker,
Rhi started to talk Phoebe through our sales process from enquiry to conversion.
Firstly, with any sales job, having good product knowledge is the foundation of
any sale. A thorough tour of the site was completed, Phoebe was given the red
carpet treatment and shown around the container and caravan areas.
After the Hollywood tour, Phoebe was shown how we manage enquiries. Within
an hour or two Phoebe was a dab hand on Space Manager (our new system),
anyone who has used Space Manager and its many functions will understand this
is no mean feat.
This was followed by a quick tour around our social media platforms, with Phoebe
growing in confidence by the minute we took the opportunity and asked if she
would like to create her own post. Phoebe agreed and the post was created (it was
the Travis / Kardashian post by the way) which has done great! Phoebe was
introduced to more new software (Canva) to help complete this.
Heading out of office
After lunch, Phoebe was treated to a Starbucks, where we went incognito to complete some competitor analysis to learn how they do it and what customers they’re attracting.
Visits were undertaken to local estate agents, where we dropped off the obligatory
goodies and sugary treats to build on the existing relationships.
At blue self storage we believe we have a great work culture, a place where we
provide excellent customer service and fantastic storage but also where people
have fun and enjoy coming to work.
A few stories were exchanged on memories involving Phoebe’s grandfather who
holds a special place in many people’s hearts and how much he would have
loved seeing Phoebe work in the business he built. Also, how many expletives
he would’ve used in doing so! Nick was a very direct man with the
biggest smile on his face. He loved a captive audience and regaling stories.
One thing is certain, Phoebe is a chip off the old block, sharp as a button with a
warm caring personality who is interested in people and getting to know them.
Phoebe added ‘It wasn’t what I expected, it was much better! I didn’t know what
you did, so being there and working in the office made me realise it’s varied with
different departments and roles which I liked. I mostly enjoyed the social media
and engaging with businesses on visits.’
From everyone at blue self storage, it was an absolute honour having you and
you are welcome back anytime!
